With touches of canasta, rummy, and poker, this card game could easily become a Friday-night family favorite. The object of the game is to get a sequence, meaning a row of five poker-like chips on the playing mat. The vinyl mat itself (approximately 28 by 32 inches) shows rows of face-up playing cards. Players place their crowning chips on top of the card pictures, and can set up sequences by using careful strategizing and knowing which Sequence cards to keep and discard. Since forethought, luck, and back-up plans are the keys to winning this game, it is probably too sophisticated for children under 7 years old. (But young ones can team up with adults.) The attractive mat and stacks of colorful chips add aesthetic appeal for elders and children alike. –Gail Hudson

Sequence is a fantastic card game. Everyone should play it at least once. If you do, you won’t be able to stop at just one game. I would recommend Sequence to everyone.

This was a good purchase for my young granddaughter. The older children and parents play with her, so it is a good way to get the toddlers involved in family fun.

This is an excellent game and my four year old loves to play this game! It made a great birthday gift for her male classmate as well.

FACT: Entertainment costs are going up.

In case you have been under a rock lately, gas costs you about $3.30 per gallon (about $45 per filling on an average car). Movies cost between $7.00 and $10.00 per person. That’s before you get your munchies. Oh, that will cost you about $10 for a large popcorn and a drink…but you get free refills on the popcorn. You want to go out with your special other for dinner and a drink? That will run you about $50 or so.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a night out as much as the next guy…but my wallet hates it every time.

Do you have kids? If you want to have a night out, don’t forget the babysitter at $6.00 per hour per child.

We have a 5-year old and a 4-year old, so finding games, puzzles and activities that the whole family can enjoy together is very important to us. This floor puzzle is large enough we can all enjoy it together.

We own more than 25 jigsaw puzzles, including 4 floor puzzles from Melissa and Doug. This 100-piece puzzle is large, so it is easy for both of our children to handle the pieces.

I like Apples to Apples, it’s a good game to have at parties. It doesn’t require a lot of thought, people can come in and out of the game, the hands are quick.

It must have been a crushing blow. It was 1934, the depths of the Great Depression. Charles Darrow was unemployed. But, he had an idea. Actually, he had a board game. He called the game Monopoly. He liked the board game and felt it was his ticket to financial success and out of the desperation of the depression. Darrow had taken his game to the famous Parker Brothers game company to publish and help him sell.

The Parker Brothers had agreed to look at the board game for Darrow. They were not impressed. Formed in 1883, by 16-year-old George Parker, the game publishing company had been making and selling games and puzzles for 51 years. During that time they had seen success and failure. Parker Brothers knew the game business. They knew what worked and what didnt. They knew what sold and what didnt. Representatives of the giant game company found 59 reasons why they did not think Darrows game could be successful.

Charles Darrow simply didnt agree. He believed. He decided to publish Monopoly himself and market it through department stores. He had 5,000 copies of the board game printed.
